On one of my frequent trips to The Habit for their Tempura-Fried Green Beans, I noticed that they’d just launched their version of a “French Onion” cheeseburger. Ooh la la – I don’t mind if I deux (or three)! This is a yummy, savory, incredibly tasty charburger. If you are a fan of french onion dip and a fan of Habit’s award-winning charburgers, then you need to get your ass down to The Habit, tout de suite.
They took the classic (and one of my favorite) burger combos of sauteed mushrooms & melted swiss, and kicked it up a notch by using a rich french onion sauce on their always perfectly charred burgers. I can’t say enough about how well this burger works. Maybe Habit’s VP of F&B, Chef Adam Baird, can help elucidate (from their press release): “The robust, rich sauce complements the char-broiled beef. The sautéed mushrooms build umami flavor; add our caramelized onions and the nutty nuance from melted Swiss cheese and it’s pure, intense earthy flavor.” And all that for only $4.50!

This is an action shot of the swiss cheese oozing ooey-gooey goodness, and the sauteed mushrooms sliding along with the cheese, no longer able to resist the tide of umami flavor.
With some of the best sides in the business (excellent fries, onion rings, and fried green beans), The Habit is officially the place to go for cheeseburger perfection and an overall positive burger experience. I mean, this is a place where the staff routinely stop by your table to ask how you’re doing, and to take your tray (try getting that kind of service at Mickey D’s). But if you need further convincing, check out how The Habit ranks in comparison to other “fast-food” burger chains in a recent Consumer Reports survey (Habit was voted the best, even outranking my beloved In-n-Out). As they say in the burger business, “Well Done!”:
“I would like to buy the hamburger…”
